February is Registration Month! Dear Families, the District is writing to share information about registration during the month of February, as well as how to learn about the unique program opportunities for students in the Burnaby School District, which are also available for application in February.
Registration – February is Registration Month in Burnaby Schools for the next school year. Register in February if your child:
- is starting Kindergarten in the 2025-26 school year, and/or
- will be new (all grades) to the Burnaby School District in the 2025-26 school year.
Apply in February – Apply anytime in February to be considered for priority placement for the 2025-26 school year if your student:
- would like to apply for French Immersion, Mandarin Language Arts or any of the other Programs of Choice, or
- is going into Grade 8 next year and wants to attend a school other than the home school for their catchment / attendance area(cross-district transfer).
Kindly note that current Grade 7s who attend a Burnaby School District elementary school do not need to apply in February unless they are wanting to attend a high school that is outside of their home’s catchment / attendance area.
Opportunities for Students at High School – As you consider your child’s interests, we want to make you aware of the many choices for students going into Grades 8-12. In addition to course electives, all eight of our high schools offer what’s called Programs of Choice. Learning options include technology, sports academies, trades, career training, and educational enrichment such as Advanced Placement. Some Career Education options even allow students to earn wages along with credits toward graduation.
See the Printable Secondary Programs of Choice Flyer
Opportunities for Elementary Students – The District also offers Programs of Choice at the elementary level.
