Stoney Creek Community School Goal – 2023-24
For a number of years, Stoney Creek has focused on Literacy skills, especially as it relates to Reading. In August 2023, staff looked at a variety of data (Report Cards and Observational Data) to come up with the following goal based on the following reasons.
Our goal is to enhance students’ numeracy performance and foster positive attitudes toward mathematics. We aim to achieve this by increasing the number of students who meet grade level expectations and by boosting student self efficacy and attitude in math
Based on report card data, Math Assessments, FSA data, and teacher observations, our students appear to perform similarly in both Literacy and Numeracy. However, our staff has not received targeted Math Professional Development for several years. As a result, we are observing challenges in Numeracy, particularly related to Number Sense and Computational Fluency. Additionally, there seems to be a dichotomy among students and family members: some love math, while others despise it.
