Week @ the Creek, September 15 – 19, 2025

In order to keep the Stoney Creek Community better informed, we will be providing a week at a glance for each week to feature events that families might need reminders about and to keep everyone up-to-date on what’s happening each week.  At the bottom, we will include large upcoming school-wide events and community programs to keep your eyes open for.

  • Creekside Pre-Teen Drop In for Gr. 5 – 7 students. Runs from 3:00 – 5:00 pm at Creekside Portable
  • Stoney Creek Council Meeting / AGM – 7:00 pm in the library. View the AGM outline here. All welcome to attend! Free childminding provided for Council Meetings – limited spaces for childminding available.  Please RSVP HERE if you require childminding in order to attend the meeting so that we can plan ahead.

Thursday, September 18

  • No Adult English Conversation Circle today – start date is set for September 25th, 9:15 – 10:15 am in the Community Rm
  • Creekside’s Dungeons & Dragons starts today – Thursdays from 3:30 – 5:00 pm. Register here.

Friday, September 19

  • Gr. 4 – 7 Cross Country Practice 8:10 – 8:45 am outside back gym doors
  • Terry Fox Run – in the afternoon (Families welcome to join) – Start in gym at 1:00 pm
  • Afterschool Nature Adventures Program (pre-registered/full) starts today! 3:00 – 4:30 pm in the Community Rm (1 of 4)
  • Pre-teen Alphabet Soup at Creekside – 3:00 pm at Creekside Portable (A place for 2SLGBTQIA+ preteens and allies in Gr. 5 – 7 who are looking for a space to be themselves and hang out with other youth)

COMMUNITY NEWS:

Creekside’s Pre-Teen Drop In is taking place on Mondays and Wednesdays for students in Grades 5-7. Check out the flyer here.

Creekside’s September Pro-D Day – Registration is open for Creekside’s Pizza & Pool Pro-D Day on September 26th. Check out the flyer here.

Food Orders for Stoney Creek’s Welcome Back BBQ – The BBQ will take place on Thursday, September 25th from 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm on our school playground and grassy area.

To order veggie burger/hamburger/hot dog combos, orders must be placed on munchalunch.com and the order deadline is 11:59pm Sunday, September 21st. Please click here to view instructions on how to register/sign up and place orders on MunchaLunch – which will be used throughout the year for other special lunches and events.

BBQ Volunteers – Are you able to help with preparing some food? We will also need a few parent VOLUNTEERS to help out with washing some vegetables and chopping tomatoes etc.  on the morning of the BBQ (9-10 am on Thurs Sept 25).  If you are available, please sign up here.

Thursday Volunteer Needed – Stoney Creek Breakfast Program: We couldn’t serve breakfast without our Volunteers! We almost have all of our spots filled for parent volunteers.  If you are available to volunteer Thursday mornings from 8:30 – 8:50 am please send an email to Ms. Briscoe (taryn.briscoe@burnabyschools.ca) Thank you for considering this opportunity to support our students with a healthy start to their day!

Stoney Creek Breakfast Program – Our Stoney Creek Breakfast Program will start the week of September 15, 2025 in the Community Room! This free program offers a light breakfast from 8:30 am to 8:50 am for students who might not have a chance to eat before school or who could use a little extra nutrition to start their day. Please note: this program is designed to provide nutritional support and is not intended as a childcare option.

Needing Extra Snacks?Backpack Buddies is a non-profit organization which partners with local schools to provide snack bags to send home with students.  Stoney Creek is very appreciative of this partnership for our students.  The snack bags are delivered to the school each week and then the bags are sorted and delivered to students’ classrooms to put into their backpacks to take home.    If your child(ren) are in need of nutritional support from Backpack Buddies due to limited income, please click here to fill out the form.  If you have more than one child, please fill out a form for each child.  For more information about Backpack Buddies, please visit https://www.backpackbuddies.ca.

Preschool and School Age Programs at Local Community Centres/Parks – check out these school age programs running at the Temporary Cameron and Charles Rummel Community Centres – space still available. Preschool programs are also running at Forest Grove Elementary and Warner Loat Park. All posters can be viewed here.

Library Updates – Library book check-outs start this week. If you would like to learn more about our library, visit our website here. **Note: Kindergarten check-outs start the week of the 22nd**

Read & Reward Program is a fundraiser for Stoney Creek, run by Kinder Books. With each purchase, 10% goes back to the school. This is ongoing – please check out this flyer for more details.
